What is Negin Saffron?

The name "Negin" itself, which translates to "precious gem" in Persian, reflects the gem-like quality of this saffron variety. Derived from the stigmas of the beautiful purple flowered Crocus sativus plant, the crimson stigmas (or threads) are hand-picked from the flowers and undergo a careful selection process, ensuring that only the finest threads with the highest levels of color intensity are chosen. This meticulous sorting contributes to Negin Saffron's exceptional quality and pure appearance.

Where does saffron come from?

The saffron plant, known as Saffron Crocus, produces gorgeous purple flowers with bright, crimson stigmas and originates from Iran, the first and largest producer of saffron in the world. Iranian saffron is one of the world’s most expensive spices. Iran produces more than 93 percent of the worlds saffron.

What does saffron taste like?

Saffron has a complex taste and aroma. It is highly flavorful and aromatic, with a spicy and slightly bitter taste. Surprisingly, saffron will bring different flavors when combined with some distinctive food, such as risotto, baked goods, and ice cream.

How do I store my saffron to keep it fresh?

Unlike other spices, saffron will not go bad. But it still has a shelf life and will lose its particular flavor and aroma after expiry. Saffron is worthy of your protection! The most critical factor in maintaining saffron is to prevent it from light and moisture. It must be kept in an airtight box with a cool, dark place, such as the pantry.

How do I tell the difference between fraudulent saffron or the real thing?

There are a number of different ways to discover if your precious spice is the real thing:

1. Color

Firstly, the color of saffron is the easiest to know whether your spice is pure or not. The crimson red color is a good sign of a reliable saffron source. Low-quality saffron will have pale streaks and sometimes even look frayed.

2. Rub with your hands

After soaking in cold water, you can rub some threads on your hands several times. You can easily see the fake one will be broken apart compared to the hard, tough original saffron. Moreover, real saffron will leave pigmented streaks on your hands.

Are there any health benefits from consuming saffron?

There’s a lot of compelling research that shows how Saffron really can help make us healthier.

2. Memory and Cognitive Function: Some studies suggest that saffron may have a positive impact on memory, learning, and cognitive function.
